With our new food truck, we can open up new locations more flexibly and thus come to your area. Whether it's to your dormitory or to the institutes: students and other guests who may not have time to go to the canteen will also get their money's worth.

Canteens and cafés

Find all our locations close to your institutes and university at a glance. Studierendenwerk Bonn's catering operates a total of 17 culinary facilities in the universities of Bonn, Sankt Augustin and Rheinbach. These include five canteens and ten cafés.

We offer students and staff at the University of Bonn and the University of Applied Sciences Bonn-Rhein-Sieg balanced meals in the canteens and fresh snacks in the cafés. We focus on balance, variety and consistent quality, combined with an excellent price-performance ratio. We also put great emphasis on sustainability and respond accordingly to nutrition trends.

Self Checkout cash desks by VisioLab

Pay quickly and easily at VisioLab's self-checkout systems in the canteen and save yourself long queues. Here's how it works:

  1. Place your tray under the iPad camera.
  2. Place your canteen card on the reader to pay.
  3. Enjoy your meal!

It's never been so quick, easy and straightforward. Give it a try! Currently, payment is only possible with the canteen card! We are currently working on a new solution.

Mensa Card

With the Mensa Card, you can use cashless payment in all our cafés and canteens. Depending on whether you are a student, employee or guest, your Mensa Card will receive a different status, which is automatically read out by the cash registers.

FAQ for the Mensa Card

The Mensa Card is available for a deposit of 5.00 Euro and proof of your status as a student or employee at all canteens of the Studierendenwerk as well as the info.point in Lennéstraße 3.

Students pay the lowest price, which only covers the cost of goods, part of the personnel and other preparation costs. The remaining costs are subsidised. You will receive the Mensa Card with student status upon presentation of a current student ID. Please present it at the cash desk each time you pay.

As an institution under public law, we are a non-profit organisation and as such obliged to issue food subsidised by state funds only to authorised persons. These are primarily the students who pay the least amount to us. However, employees of the Studierendenwerk and the universities can also eat with us at a reduced price. In order for the staff at the cash registers to directly classify you as such, you will need your Uni ID card or a Mensa Card with the employee status. You do not necessarily have to pay with the card.

We are first and foremost service providers for students. On the basis of the Studierendenwerksgesetz NRW law, we provide services in the social and economic fields. This is why food is subsidised for students as well as for employees. Nevertheless, every guest is welcome in our facilities. However, the highest price category applies to guests. It covers the production costs, while prices paid by students and staff are loss-making and are compensated by grants. Anyone who wants to pay cashless in our canteens can receive a Mensa Card with guest status. Alternatively, you can pay in cash (except at the CAMPO).

Enjoy sustainably - even on the go!

Food
All our to-go food is available from us either in your own container (Bring your own Box) or in practical reusable Relevo tableware - without any deposit.
Simply download the Relevo app, scan the QR code on the tableware and enjoy your meal - and conveniently return it within 14 days.

Drinks
Bring your own cup or use our environmentally friendly LogiCUP deposit cup - available in the café and at the coffee machine. Simply return it to the café or the reverse vending machine after use.

LogiCUP

Since the summer semester 2019, we solely offer a reusable cup to go in all cafés. Both in the café and at the coffee machines, you will receive the LogiCUP with a deposit of 50 cents (plus a reusable fee of 20 cents - starting in the summer semester 2022). This way, we are setting an example in the fight against paper cups, which produce huge amounts of waste. After enjoying your coffee, you can simply return the LogiCUP to the return machines or to the café. The vending machines work similarly to deposit bottle returners by means of a barcode. They are student-friendly and located at high-traffic locations on campus (near the dining hall, lecture hall or library).

The LogiCUP is recyclable - from dispensing to collecting at the reverse vending machine to rinsing several hundred times. And: it is 100% recyclable thanks to single-grade polypropylene. From the very beginning, we were thinking in terms of material cycles.

BONN-A-PETIT - the free children's meal

We offer a free meal for children in all our canteens, the BONN-A-PETIT!

The following requirements must be met in order to enjoy BONN-A-PETIT:

  • You are a student parent
  • Your children are of pre-school and/or primary school age
  • You have a Mensa Card or a badge with a Mensa Card function.
  • You have filled out the application form (see download area).
  • Personally register your children on your Mensa Card at info.point
  • Buy your own food using cashless payment with your Mensa Card
  • The food must be eaten in the canteen. Take-away is not permitted!

If these conditions are fulfilled, our little guests can choose an equivalent meal from the canteen's assortment and enjoy it on the specially designed children's plate. If the appetite is especially high, simply make use of the available second helpings for children (side dish, salad, vegetables, dessert).

Study room on the ground floor of CAMPO

Need to study or write a paper, but don't know where? After lunchtime, the ground floor of the CAMPO Campusmensa Poppelsdorf turns into a study room. There are plenty of power sockets.

You can use the ground floor of CAMPO for studying from Monday to Friday, 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. If there is an event at CAMPO on that day, the study area will move to the dining room on the first floor (OG).

FAQ

Since 13th December 2014, according to the new EU Food Information Regulation (LMIV) No. 1169/2011, the 14 most common allergens must be labelled in all catering establishments. Here you can find our allergen labels, which apply to all canteens and cafés of the Studierendenwerk Bonn. Allergens are small protein structures that are usually completely harmless and appear in plant and animal foods. However, the immune systems of allergy sufferers develop antibodies against these normally harmless substances, such as types of food. Therefore, when dealing with an existing allergy to certain foods, the only therapy is to abstain from them.

Quality not only begins with the selection and purchase of food products, but also with its hygienic storage as well as preparation. There are mostly legally regulated standards, which we strictly adhere to in order to guarantee a high and constant level of quality in all our five canteens and ten cafés.

It is extremely important to us to make the production of food and our other services as sustainable as possible. That is why we are a member of "Sustainable Bonn". We implement numerous measures that save water, energy and other resources not only in gastronomy, but also in the construction of dormitories and other properties as well as in administration. In addition to material sustainability, we also continue this idea in our dealings with our employees. All our employees have fixed employment contracts according to TVöD. We employ people with disabilities and oppose the use of seasonal workers.

The prices in our canteens are based on social, i.e. economic principles. Every student should be able to afford a warm lunch every day. In principle, students pay only the cost of the goods and part of the personnel and other preparation costs. The remaining costs are subsidised.

A part of our offer is relatively heavily subsidised, such as the so-called main components, the side dishes, the salad bar and the stew.

The so-called special dishes are more adequately calculated, but still subsidised (for students).
